Developed over a period of several years, with the collaboration of hospitals and breast cancer patients, the Louise Listening Bra is Stella McCartney’s much-loved post-operative bra for women who have undergone surgery as part of their treatment for breast cancer.
Having witnessed first-hand the devastation and loss of confidence that a mastectomy can elicit, Stella McCartney was keen to create a post-operative bra for women wanting to feel feminine and supported in this most difficult of times. From the first iteration of the bra, combining the medical functionality of a highly technical garment with the feminine design details seen in the Stella McCartney lingerie collection has been the key focus.
Following extensive research and product sampling by lingerie experts in the field, focus groups and brainstorming sessions were held at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London to further understand the needs of women at all stages of their breast cancer treatment. In developing and continuously improving the original 2015 design, Stella was able to deepen her understanding of the diverse needs and functional requirements of a post-operative garment. The latest Louise Listening bra, relaunched in 2018, showcases a host of new features and design details that allow maximum comfort and support with increased ease of use.
In 2018, 1,000 women received a free Louise Listening bra, either directly from the foundation or from one of our partner hospitals. In 2019, the number of bras available to women around the world will increase to 10,000, with more stock available from stellamccartneycares.org and an increased network of partner hospitals across the UK.
